Three part tutu skirt

This tutuskirt is folded into three parts. This makes it possible for the tutu skirt to be in different lenghts.

4 meter
Spread the tulle into its full lenght, fold it into three parts - one third up, one third down. The third section is folded and then sewed together with the hem. Now you have the possibility to cut in the tulle and for example make the front part shorter or longer than the rest.
If you want to do something extra with your tutuskirt you can place maraboudown on the bottom.

Tip: Instead of using several meters of down and sew it along the hem, you can cut the down into small pieces and place it randomly on the outer layers. You can use a sewing machine or a stapler.

Tutu skirt made from a circle model

A tutu skirt can also be made from a circle model.

You cut three large circles and then you cut a smaller circle in the middle where you sew a drawstring hem for the elastic band.
With this type of skirt the volume will be at the bottom of the skirt instead of in the waist. In order to achieve even more volume at the bottom you can sew a ruffle on the bottom piece.

N.B.! For every time you want a ruffle you will need 1 meter of tulle.

Various ways for using tulle

It is not only for skirts tulle can be used. Release your imagination, use it for example as shown on the picture around your head and then you have an impressive headdress.

A dress can easily be made. Make the dress the same way, as when you are to sew a tutu skirt (look at the blog about ways to sew). With the dress you measure around your breast how large the elastic band should be.
In order to achieve the balloon effect as shown in the picture, you fold the lowest part of the dress and sew it up at the bottom.

How to sew a tutu skirt

This is what you need:
Tulle
Elastic band
Needle and thread

How to:
You sew a long drawstring hem, then you pull the elastic band through.

Place a safety pin in the end of the elastic band and push it through. (You measure the elastic band so it fits around your waist)

You wrinkle the tulle on the elastic band, and after that you sew it together so the ends meet.

And now you have a complete tutu skirt.

If you want your skirt in two colours, you simply place the two layers together and sew it the same way.

You can also choose to add sequins to your skirt. The easy way to do it would be to buy a sequin ribbon and sew it on using zigzag stitches on a sewing machine.

Tutu skirt - without needle and thread

This is what you need:
Elastic band
Tulle
Scissor

How to:
Tie the elastic band around the waist of your model, so you are sure that the tutu skirt will get the right size. Measure how long you want the skirt to be.
Remove the elastic band.

Cut the tulle into long shreds. The shreds must be twice the lenght of the wanted result on the skirt.

Tie the tulleshreds on the elastic band one by one or apply the topsytale method.

And you are done!!!

Tip:
Place your elastic band around a chair while you tie the tulle on.
When the tutu skirt is made you can chose to place it in a rubbish bag and vacuum pack it for at least 24 hours. Then you will achieve an effect where you will be able to shape the skirt as you want, you can for example make some of the shreds longer.

If you feel that the tutu skirt is to big around the waist you can use a moist cloth as well as an iron to steam it.
